Winter is Coming…

If you were like me, you may have joined in on Game of Thrones very late. My husband coaxed me to watch, although I was afraid of all the violence. But I became hooked, and I was especially interested because it was filmed in Iceland, a beautiful place we visited almost two years ago. You see I was like many people who believed that Iceland was an ice cube and a terrible place to visit. Actually, it’s Greenland that is the ice cube; Iceland is a green wonder of nature most of the time. When it rains there, you do see the ice, hence its name!

Anyway, this blog is about Winter is coming- so why should you care? Everyone seems to have an opinion about winter: Even Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming! This statement is shrouded in mystery or dread, or both. I know I used to like winter more than I do now. If I can escape it at least once to a warm place I seem to “weather” it better. This year is not looking good for that vacation to a sunny beach. As an Indiana Image Consultant, I just want to remind you to prepare your skin for the harsh dry winter up ahead.

Winter is Coming – Is Your Skin Ready?

Your Indiana Image Consultant is here to help prepare you for winter. Moisturizing is key in your cleansing routine. Not just your skin, but also your hair. Nearly all of us have drier skin in the winter. That means we need to treat our skin. Dry skin plagues me all winter long, so I continue to moisturize. I do this with a careful selection of various lotions and oils. I really look for lotions that do not contain large amounts of water. They are nearly impossible to find; although I do like Burt Bee’s lotions and others that are more organic without so many chemicals. I often mix a fragranced lotion with my everyday lotion for more impact. Right now, I am loving Bloom by Gucci.

Indiana Image Consultant’s Skin Care Tips For Men

Guys, you need lotion too. Look for a rich one with shea and not so much water in it. You also need a face moisturizer, and again I highly recommend Kieh’s Ultra Face Moisturizer with SPF 30 or something rich for your face. The best time to use a moisturizer is when you are drying off after a shower. Your skin is damp, and the product soaks in as well. Feel free to use a cream at night as well that does not have SPF. Kiehl’s has a version for that in a lighter and heavier formula. I love the moisture repair version, pictured here.

Another Indiana Image Consultant tip for men is to take care of your skin. Guys remember you do need skincare. No one likes to date or be married to someone with scaly skin or a face that’s never been exfoliated. Just think basic: use lotion where your skin is dry, wash your face at night and use a gentle scrub on your face one to two times a week. Make sure you are not scrubbing too hard, and buy the formula especially for your skin type: dry, oily, combination or even sensitive. I like Clinique 7-day scrub and other brands. Just look for gentle scrub. Other great brands for dry skin are Aveeno and Neutrogena in the drug store and other brands such as L’Occtane, Aveda and Beauty Counter. I am a big fan of moisturizing shower soaps since that starts the moisture in the cleansing and can save a step.

Keep it Sassy!
