Back To School Part 2: Boys Capsule Outfits

Back to School Shopping Part 2: A Supercharged Boy Wardrobe!

A few blogs ago, we focused on a back-to-school capsule wardrobe for the girls. Now we are switching gears to explore options for the boys. This Indianapolis Capsule Wardrobe Stylist used to hate trying to get the kids dressed for school. A capsule wardrobe ends the daily struggle of “what should I wear.” As the end of summer gives way to cool fall days, layering pieces help this capsule wardrobe go farther and make it more versatile. Think comfortable basics paired with dressy outer layers.  While 2020 saw a rise in leisurewear and pajama sales, Fall 2021 fashion will begin to include pieces that are more formal as daily life returns to face-to-face activities and people generally want to leave the stretchy pants (most of the time!) at home.

Outer Layers

Boys who wear jean jackets are at the top of the fashion classStart with a solid coat. This sleek puffer in a military green shade is smart and classic. The color acts as a great neutral, coordinating with many other colors and styles. The quilted look adds extra polish, and the Patagonia brand is great for quality, as well as being on-trend. The hood offers extra warmth for those rainy, cold and windy days.

For not-as-cold days, have a padded puffer vest handy.  Vests are such a wonderful layering option, and this two-tone version has a vintage vibe that is very much in style for the fall. For small children, vests give extra warmth while not restricting hand movement as wintry parkas tend to due to the sleeves that always seem to be longer than necessary.

For the warmest days, this hooded jean jacket goes with just about anything. A vintage twist on the always classic jean jacket with a French terry hood and sleeves. Pair with jeans or khakis for a dressier feel.

Tops

Indianapolis Capsule Wardrobe Stylist Beth Divine says you can't go wrong in a striped long-sleeve teeHanna Anderson offers some sweet graphic tees that fit a variety of likes and interests, including Disney, Marvel, animal, and machine-themed options. This bright orange construction shirt is a favorite because it adds a pop of color under any neutral outer layers

This Indianapolis Capsule Wardobe Stylist loves a good quality long sleeve tee.  This long-sleeve shirt with a pocket can stand alone or pair nicely with the puffer vest. The stripes are interesting without being distracting.

A long sleeve polo can be a nice dressier shirt option for the messiest of boys. The Mayoral brand offers great quality in children’s clothing. It can typically be found in more boutique settings, and usually incorporates bright, bold colors in its attire. This polo is no different and can be dressed up or down. The rugby vibe with the numbers on the front and back is a nice twist on the standard polo shirt.

A simple button-up is always a wardrobe staple. Again, another option to dress up or down. It is lightweight and perfect for those first few months back to school while summer still lingers.

Bottoms

Boot-Cut Jeans For boys from Old Navy.  The classic styling of boot-cut jeans is coming back in popularity. These basics are the foundation of any child’s wardrobe.

Another key basic for boys this fall is a pair of khaki pants. Wear with a t-shirt or dress shirt, sneakers or loafers, and you have a variety of occasions and outfits to mix and match.

A different take on the standard jogger, the twill material takes it up a notch while keeping it comfortable. Pair with the graphic tee or long-sleeve polo.

There you have it! A capsule wardrobe to keep your boy dapper, comfortable, and outfitted for all the back-to-school activities.
