Getting on the Style Wagon Before Winter Settles

Personal Styling Tips for the Winter Months

As temperatures drop, you may be like me. My wardrobe is settling in to comfort with fuzzy sweaters and comfortable jeans. You may already have invested in some new boots. This year I am seeing many more knee and over-the-knee boots out there in suede. Evereve had some beautiful grey suede boots that go with so much!! Cool and even warm colors. If you haven’t considered something different for this season, read on because I’ve got plenty more  Personal Styling tips for you this winter!

Personal StylingOr you probably know animal is bigger than ever before. I just invested in a Chelsea boot by Marc Fisher like these here. I love them. I recently wore them for a day of Personal Styling and personal shopping, and they were comfortable and as well as styling. If you’re not sure you want to take the plunge with new animal print shoes, start small with a narrow belt on a black and leopard print purse. I have also seen some animal print earrings. Start slow, and see if you like them.

Another type of boot I am loving—that I don’t have—is the bright red suede boot. They are so beautiful, and I was pleased to see Nordstrom’s two options—a chunky heel and a stiletto heel. They are really a personal outfit maker and a statement! Check out this styling pair from Charlotte Russe here.

Personal Styling Tip #2

Next – velvet is everywhere, from boots, to dress, pants, jumpsuits and even just wrap tops. I invested in a navy velvet dress for symphony outings and even the holidays. I also like styling velvet burnout or unusual colors such as pale pink velvet with other things in my closet or something new.

Third, faux fur is king. I see it everywhere in pile coats in gorgeous colors, fluffy vests and even furry purses. When I think of the pile fur coats I go back to when I was in junior high and somehow, I convinced my mom to buy me a styling navy faux fur coat. I remember admiring myself in the 6th grade bathroom in my beautiful coat. The navy made my eyes pop and my hair shine. (Yes, the personal vanity started young!!) Pick a different color as your statement coat – I recently saw a hunter green fur coat. It was so styling, stunning, and beautiful…maybe I will ask for it for Christmas.

Winter Personal Styling Tip #4

Track pants are another Personal Styling hot fashion item that have hit the mass fashion styling market. They have been around a while—I have them in jeans—but how I am seeing stores and the fashion industry styling them in dress pants. Boden has some beautiful ones in wool and a personal velvet strip down the side of each leg, as well as the 1901 brand and Theory. They are so chic, and you can try styling them up with a pump and simple sweater or jacket or dress them down with sneakers. Find them here. I have yet to invest in personal dress track pants, but I have my eye on some possibilities out there!

Leather is still big in personal fashion across the board. I am seeing leather skirts again – faux and real – in black, burgundy and other colors. Also, an old fabric is new again: corduroy. I love it and have print dress in it and just ordered a green corduroy jacket. It is fresh, youthful and a nice fabric for a jacket, dress, jeans or miniskirts. If you haven’t had corduroy in a while, give this classic another look and try styling it with something new or modern.

Keep it sassy, Indy.
