Indianapolis Color Analysis: The Summer to Fall Switch

As summer days are filled with warm sun, pool time and vacation days give way to crisp chill air, pumpkin spice on everything, and cozy fall feelings, it’s time to transition your wardrobe seamlessly along with the changing weather.

Read on for a few fun ideas to add warmth to your autumn wardrobe as the season slips into cooler days.

1 – Choose an Anchor
One fun way to play with your wardrobe this fall is to choose an anchor piece to begin building your outfit. A fun and classic choice is this season’s wide-leg, white pants that you will see everywhere this season. Ann Taylor has a great choice here.

2 – Add Autumn Colors
I love the warm orange, deep mustard, light camel, and dark navy that fall brings to our
area’s outdoor parks and gardens. All these colors are great inspirations to add to your
autumn clothing choices. Adding a pop of warm color to your top is a good way to
bring your wardrobe into this next season. Read more about my Indianapolis Color Analysis here if you need help knowing what fall colors look best on you!

3 – Texture and Warmth

Another way to hold off the chill of cooler weather is to exchange lighter fabrics like
linen, silk, and satin for textured and warm fabrics like tweeds, flannels, and cashmere. I
always enjoy pulling out my cozy sweaters to transition my wardrobe into the cooler
months. As you pull out your warmer tops, build a shopping list for a new sweater or
two.

4 – Look for Layers
As autumn temperatures fluctuate from morning to afternoon and evening, layers will
be your best friend. Begin by building from a basic tee, then add a thin cardigan or
chunkier sweater for dressy or a more casual style. Have fun experimenting with
different lengths for your outer layers to visually keep your silhouette sleek in a way that
works for your body type.

5 – Boots or a New Fall shoe is the Best
No wardrobe is autumn ready without several choices of boots in your closet. I like to
wear ankle boots with a heel with my skirts and dresses. Choosing a good leather
knee-high boot works well with slim jeans in black or a dark wash. Not only will your
feet be warm, but you will be ready for a fun trip to the pumpkin patch to gather your
fall porch decor. You also might want to consider adding one of the new, popular shoes out there — a flat in black or a fun color, or a loafer either flat or with a heel. I am eyeing some cream-colored, heeled loafers.

5 – Add Accessories
Accessories for fall are important to bring your wardrobe into this season. Switch your
sun hats and sunglasses for a wool hat with a cozy scarf or belt to pull your outfit
together. Warmer-toned jewelry that matches your Indianapolis Color Analysis is also a good choice.

Fall can turn into a favorite season as you transition your wardrobe into the season.
With a few thoughtful choices integrating a good anchor piece, your favorite autumn
colors, texture, and layers, and then adding a good boot with a warm scarf, your closet
choices will smoothly transition into fall.
