Simple Ways to Stand Out While Working at Home

We’ve all had this experience: We open our closet, look in and think, “what am I possibly going to wear today?” At times, even I think that. Although it’s much easier now that I know how to dress and put outfits together. If you are one of many, many people working at home, this discussion is for you.

Many clients and friends have told me they turn their video off in these calls. I have many of these meetings, too. I meet with clients and have meetings associated with being president of the Association of Image Consultants International Chicago Midwest Chapter. All of our monthly board meetings, educational conferences, and other leadership meetings meet on Zoom. Yes, there are times when I turn the video off. But, just as many times, I do not. I want to show up, look my best, and participate. And it shows. People feel more engaged with a person they talk to if they can see them.

Carmel Wardrobe Stylist’s Go-To Outfits For Zoom Meetings

I know I feel best when I am in a clean shirt or top under a third layer such as a blazer. Occasionally I’ll add some color with a colorful scarf or a piece of statement jewelry. I am very aware of these things that make you look a little different. That is what I do for a living as a Carmel Wardrobe Stylist.

I am encouraging you to do this as well.  Show up and get involved as though you were at work.  The pandemic will be over one day and some of us will continue working at home, but many of us may not. If you continue to work at home make an effort to be memorable! Learn what looks better on you when you’re on Zoom. Learn how to make your background more inviting and flattering to you. Make sure you have enough lighting. Make sure there are no objects that are distracting, either, such as a hanging lamp that looks like a hat. (Oh no, it’s hovering just over your head.)

Why Getting Dressed For Your Zoom Meetings Is Important

Your image is at stake!

Don’t be the one who is always turning off video. Be the one who’s there, alert, pleasant, looking professional, and paying attention. People notice how others appear on these calls. Trust me. You are presenting an image, even when you’re not on camera. Is this the image you want? Can it be better?

Maybe at the beginning of working from home, you were kind of bummed out. As a Carmel Wardrobe Stylist, I was too. I love meeting people, shaking hands, going to conferences, and hugging old friends. I totally understand if you feel that you can’t get dressed because you don’t feel like there is much of a point. Maintaining your morning routine as though you were going to work helps your brain. You feel like a professional member of society still and creating a routine helps give you a sense of control. If you’ve been steadily working, treat yourself to a new outfit now and again. Looking good can help you feel good, even if you’re not in the office.

A Virtual Carmel Wardrobe Stylist Consultation Can Update Your Zoom Meeting Style

If you need some help in finding some different clothing, I can help. One of my services is personal shopping for men and women for all kinds of life events: work, casual, dating, formal, weddings, etc. Sometimes it helps to have an objective opinion.

I was recently at an image consultant conference where I had a stylist. Yes, I had my own stylist. It was wonderful. I bought some new jeans I might not have bought, and they looked fabulous!! If you need help in improving your Zoom image, contact me, your local Carmel Wardrobe Stylist. I have learned over many months of doing video calls how to look better and best. Certain colors look better me, while other prints or “trappings” don’t look as good.

Having someone shop for you is a treat and a learning experience you will never forget. To learn how I work and my fees, please text me or email me at (316)-416-2782 or beth@bethdivinestyle.com.
