More Trends for Gals…Pt 2

As a Carmel Wardrobe Stylist, I am always watching the fashion trends to see what the latest and greatest thing will be in my closet next. What will we see in the stores this fall? Fashion shows give us a hint, but not everything translates well to the public. That’s ok if you’re not 100% on trend, but I encourage you to try some of these new styles. You might be surprised by what you find.

More Fall Fashion Trends for Women By Carmel Wardrobe Stylist Beth Divine

Large Silhouettes are in for Fall 2021 says Carmel Wardrobe Stylist Beth DivineLarge Silhouettes

I’ve mentioned this in a few blogs now, large silhouettes are the biggest change in fall fashion. I’ve seen a lot of menswear jackets for women. These will still be strong, even though many are bigger and less fitted silhouettes. My advice is to proceed with caution.  As a Carmel Wardrobe Stylist, I completely understand that not everything on the runway is going to look amazing on you. If they are not flattering, move on. If it’s not for you, don’t sweat it. That is my advice for any trend!

You’re probably going to see a lot of wide-legged pants making a comeback. But like the blazers, be sure to consider the right silhouette of pants. Please have an open mind! Don’t automatically discount the wider leg. You really have to try this style on. I recommend trying them with a fitted top. The extremely wide pants really only flatter a very few people. Like the tall, slimmer people that are modeling on the runway. If you don’t fit this mold, it’s ok to pass on this trend. A compromise is to wear straight-leg pants or jeans.

Sweaters & Shoes

Fair Isle sweaters have always been with us, but especially they are popular this season. I like the ones that have different color combinations such as coral and red, beyond the basic grey and black. Wear this winter sweater with a chunky boot or even the fuzzy Uggs. I used to own them, and I loved them, but at some point, I grew tired of the round, clunky shape. Good news: I was in a store recently and notices Ugg has made more narrow, sleeker versions of the winter boots. I may buy some!

Riding boots are big. I am a sometimes fan. I like to have a good size heel because I feel they can make your legs look larger. So consider a heel on these always. Slouchy boots are big as well, and they can work if you have slim legs. If you don’t, stay away from these boots. And, if you have a wider calf, search for boots to fit this shape. There are more out there than you realize.

Bomber Jackets

Bomber jackets have always been around, but you will see more of them this season. I like the different colors such as hunter green and black with patches. They don’t have to be a leather version either; satin ones are cool as are just cotton. Wear them with a minimal purse.

Skirts & Dresses

Carmel Wardrobe Stylist recommends Wearing Slip dresses with blazers and cardigans this fall Knife-pleated skirts will still be big. I like them in dark colors but beware of light colors. Also, watch where the hem lands. Make sure the hem falls below the calves if you have full calves.

Wear the midi skirt with tall boots or even booties – with booties make sure a little of your leg shows.

Slip dresses are big. I love them, and they’re great for layering. This Carmel Wardrobe Stylist recommends wearing them with a long, cozy belted cardigan. That will break up the length. and make it more interesting. I like this one from JCrew.

With a slip dress, fill up the neckline with jewelry that coordinates with your coloring. Silver with cool tones, and gold and rose-gold with warm. Neutral goes best with warm and cold tones. If you want to get your color analysis, reach out. It will be life-changing!

Bling & Color

Gemstones in bright colors and other versions of the collar necklace will be in abundance. As a Carmel Wardrobe Stylist, I  love this look since they make a crewneck top much more interesting. With a jewel neck, you either wear a collar, choker-type necklace, or a pendant that hangs lower on your chest. Don’t make a mistake and wear a necklace that is too short.
