Leggings in the News

Screen Shot 2015-10-30 at 1.12.09 PMPerhaps you saw the popular Facebook post from the lady talking about leggings: “They ain’t pants.” It caused many conversations about leggings. While I am not going to tell you ladies you can’t wear leggings ever again–I am not that naive–I will give you some of my thoughts.

First: Leggings do not belong in the workplace. Even if your figure rivals your teenage daughter’s figure, wearing leggings to the office will not project the image you want to project–even on “casual” day or Friday. If you want to dress down, wear a structured knit pant that’s not skin tight. Wear it with a jacket or shirt for a casual look. Don’t wear it super long: when you do, it looks as though you’re covering up something some flaw. Your top should fit and hit at the middle of the hips.

When you wear leggings on “your” time, make sure they are not too tight, too thin or too light. We don’t want to see your rolls, your cellulite or your tattoos. If you are heavier or carry most of your weight in your hips, consider other options to leggings such as knit, straight leg pants, straight leg jeans or even leggings, etc. I am showing a nice option to leggings here. Pants with more structure are you going to be kinder to your curves. They are comfortable: I promise.

I leave you with this thought…if you wear leggings and have to wear a long top “to cover up your backside” — what does that say?

Keep it sassy, Indy.
