Valentine’s Day is Coming

Hello Indianapolis Fashionistas,

Happy February! You know what’s coming up, it’s Valentine’s Day, and it’s a reason to celebrate for all of us — whether or not you have a special someone in your life. I look forward to this day because I know winter is almost done. Yes, it is! I can’t wait. I do love snow for the first few times, but I quickly detest the cold weather and especially the ice. Anyway, let’s all celebrate.

I love to look online at pretty, frothy possible outfits for this special day. Try to think outside of the box. The most obvious choice, of course, is a red top or dress. I do love red–it’s one of my best colors. So I will show you a few red tops here — I am focusing on tops since I think it’s easy to pair them with jeans, ankle pants, silk pants, a pencil skirt or even put under a work outfit.

So besides the traditional red, I suggest you also consider colors such as  burgundy, sienna (like a rusty red); pinks such as pale pink, fuchsia, magenta, medium pink; and prints such as florals, polka dots, stripes; and textures such as some sheerness, shine, bell sleeves, backless, cold-shoulder, etc. Have some fun! Also add some red accessories such as belts, earrings, purses and some makeup–what a perfect time to have a bright pink or red pout!

Love the new Kate Spade floral collection. I don’t buy Kate Spade often — mostly I get it for holidays or birthday presents, but I love her eye for the girly girl! A sweet addition for Valentine’s Day is a pretty clutch. Find a pretty print to add some interest to your outfit.

If you want to wear a dress for a big date or just date night with your sweetie, of course, red is a great choice always as is cream. I am in love with cream since seeing Melania Trump and Ivanka Trump wear it–I have a cream, bell sleeve dress in my closet I have not worn yet. I plan to wear it with pink suede pumps soon. It’s so understated, yet so pretty. This is a change for me since I am usually the woman who wears the bright red, in your face hues, or the ever-popular Bohemian floral. But I am changing some.

Believe it or not, we do change style preferences. I know I have…who knows tomorrow may be a different story.

Don’t forget to add some shoes. They don’t have to be red. They can be pink, cream, or just your usual pumps, but add some sparkly or girly shoe jewelry. I also like wearing a floral print shoe with a plain dress–if you do this tone down your clothing and jewelry so you don’t scream your presence.

Finally, don’t forget your makeup, hair and nails. Add some curls to your hair style; wear it up in a messy bun with some pretty sparkly drop earrings or simple pearls. Get our the red or even pretty pink nail polish or a pretty metallic.

It’s our holiday and time to shine. Enjoy it, fashionistas.

Keep it sassy, Indy.
