Update Your Work Style!

Men, this blog is focused on you and what I often see men do when purchasing clothes or just picking their day to day wardrobe, as a Carmel Wardrobe Stylist.

Carmel Wardrobe Stylist Work Attire Suggestions

First, I know this sounds like a broken record, but we all know: Since the pandemic in 2020-2021, we’ve become even more relaxed in our wardrobe. For many who worked at home during that time or still do today, our wardrobes have been predominately consisted of sweat pants, T-shirts, hoodies and sneakers. If we are often don’t turn on our cameras during video calls at work, we may not even wear these items. Who would know? Also, might I add, our society was already becoming much more casual in our wardrobes, but COVID-19 pushed that trend into over drive.

Today, some people still work at home and will continue to long term. Others are starting to go back to the office, whether it in a hybrid capacity such as a few days a week or full term. Your situation will dictate what you wear many times. I am telling you to go against that tide, especially if you are early in your career and know eventually you want to be promoted, noticed or jump to another career place in your life.

Your wardrobe does STILL  matter.

Here are some tips from me, a Carmel Wardrobe Stylist who works with many potentially promoted people, those who suddenly have to work in the office or those who know a change is in order. Remember – you are a walking billboard all the time!

  • Try to control the number of times you wear sloppy athleisure to work situations, especially if you are on camera. This does not make a good impression and does little to advance your career image.
  • If it’s been ages since you’ve shopped in person for some new wardrobe items, do it! If you need help, reach out to me for a style update and closet cleanse to see what you need and don’t need as well as what to purge in your closet. An objective opinion can be very enlightening!
  • You most likely need some dark rinse straight-leg jeans that fit you. It is the most important basic you will own.
  • Some well-fitted, new button-down shirts will instantly elevate your style, and of course are an easy ensemble with the new jeans.
  • Look twice at your coats. There isn’t anything that ruins a fashion look like putting on an old, tattered coat; or a shapeless puffer coat in a full color. Having at least one nice coat such as a bomber or even a wool peacoat or topcoat can add so much finesse to your total image.
  • You need different types of shoes beyond your favorite sneakers. It’s great that we can now wear sneakers that are more fashionable and feel good about it. But don’t make that your entire shoe wardrobe. A beautiful leather loafer, oxford or even Chelsea boot is truly a fashion statement for men, as it is for women.
