Summer Style Trends to Try!

While your summer vacations may be canceled, and there is an uncertainty that hangs in the air. There’s one thing for sure that can never be canceled: fashion. With arguably the best season just around the corner, it’s time to prep your wardrobe for this summer’s trendiest items. Who knows, these trends may even inspire you to change out of your quarantine sweats! Here are my Indianapolis Fashion Stylist trends to try this summer.

Long Shorts

Finally! The reign of the booty short is over! This shorts trend is perhaps the easiest trend to implement. Not only does it look flattering on all shapes and sizes, but they are very comfortable. For the ultimate casual look, try pairing long denim shorts with a white t-shirt or button up with sneakers. Add some simple gold accents to create an effortlessly polished chic look. For a dressier look, try shorts with a matching blazer and add a pair of heels for the perfect day to night look.  I also love long shorts with big belts!

Bright Colors

The spring summer runways were full of bright color palettes. While neons were hot last summer, these hues are much more wearable in everyday life. First up, orange. Although this may not be everyone’s favorite color it really can add a certain punch to any outfit. Whether you try a light tangerine or a bright red orange it is sure to be a show stopping outfit.

Another color your Indianapolis Fashion Stylist recommends worth trying out is turquoise. Perhaps the color that represents summer the best. Turquoise accents on jewelry or shoes can take any boring outfit to the next level. Personally, I have been loving wearing turquoise nail polish for an everyday pop of color. And finally, I challenge you to try out celery green. This color trend may be in direct correlation to the industry shifting to be more sustainable. However it came to be, it sure is popping up in all major brands. Try a basic green tank top with baggy jeans and strapped sandals.

Strapped Sandals

If your’e anything like me and have been binging shows like “Friends” and “Sex in the City” while in quarantine, you may have developed an appreciation for 90’s style. Specifically, this summer, 90’s shoes will be especially on point. Carrie Bradshaw’s signature strapped sandal will be everywhere. They will be the perfect addition to any night out outfit. Whether you pair them with a pair of jeans and a blouse or a mini dress they will be sure to finish off any look. Keep it neutral for dressing up an outfit, or make it fun with bright colors. There’s really no occasion where a strapped sandal is out of place.

Big Collars

Maybe not the biggest summer trend, but I think it is one worth noting. Over the runways there were plenty of 70’s collars on blazers and button ups. However, for the trend to be a little more summer friendly try out a victorian collar instead. The victorian collar is oversized and vintage inspired with lace trimmings. The big collar trend can add the perfect quirkiness you may be searching for. The question you’re dying to ask this Indianapolis Fashion Stylist is how can you implement it into your everyday wardrobe? Balance the statement making top with simple jeans or trousers so you don’t overwhelm your look.

For transitional days when there is a little chill in the air still, big collars can be a great layer tool. They look especially cool under a cardigan or blazer. If you love this look, Ganni is definitely the brand for you. They can easily be credited with the rise of this trend. The blouse is the perfect way to test the waters in this trend. It would look great with some gingham pants and loafers for your next work from home look.

Big Sunglasses

Indianapolis Personal Stylist Beth Divine shares her checklist for looking great on any vacationAlthough the past few summers have been all about micro sunnies, let’s be honest, they aren’t the most protective or practical choice. The big sunglass trend comes with the resurgence of the 70’s on the spring-summer runways. These shades can give any outfit the perfect retro feel. Try them out in a round or square shape. They look best in warm tones, or even a touch of tortoiseshell. Check out your local  vintage store. They are bound to have a wide array of perfectly vintage shades. Rule of thumb is, if your grandma would wear them, they’re totally on trend.

Hopefully these summer trends can be helpful in getting out of a quarantine style rut! Better (and warmer) times are ahead of us. So get shopping, and you’ll be ready for post quarantine activities. And better yet you’ll have the cutest outfits to show off!
