My mom grew up in the city of Mishawaka, but quickly shed her city ways when she married my dad and we eventually moved to a small farm in a rural area.
She told me that there’s nothing in the world like a custom suit and loved wearing a custom-made camel hair suit and skirt. (These clothing pieces were in style back in the early 1940s.) From her advice, I eventually acquired my own custom-made royal blue pantsuit.
My mother was also a talented gardener and cook. I have many fond memories of cooking in the kitchen with her. I’ve even included her recipe for sour cream chocolate cake. I often ice it with vanilla buttercream icing and it’s worth every calorie.
