Mixing and matching denim can be a stylish and versatile way to create various outfits. While it’s certainly a fashion-forward look, Denim on Denim can also be a huge fashion mishap. Remember the Canadian Tux? (Denim on Denim that matches.) Let’s explore some ideas on how to wear this idea with your favorite Indianapolis Image Consultant!

Here are some tips from your Indianapolis Image Consultant
Vary the Washes: Pair denim pieces in different washes (light, medium, dark) to create contrast and visual interest. For example, a light denim shirt with dark jeans can look great.
Contrasting Styles: Mix classic denim pieces with contrasting styles. Pair distressed jeans with a polished denim blazer or a denim jacket with a feminine floral dress. Different washes would apply here as well. (Avoid exactly matching your denim pieces.)
Play with Textures: Consider denim pieces with different textures. Denim comes in various textures like raw, distressed, and coated. Combining these textures can add depth to your outfit.
Remember that fashion is all about expressing your individuality, so don’t be afraid to experiment and find denim combinations that make you feel confident and comfortable.
Part 2: Buying Jeans!
There are many elements of buying jeans beyond style: fit and stretch in the fabric. Early in my career, I heard the tip to buy your jeans as tight as you can because they will stretch. (This tip does not apply if your jeans don’t have stretch.) Paying $100 and up for a great pair of jeans and finding that you bought them too big and that they stretch out is a terrible feeling. (I have done this, readers.)
Buying jeans is like buying pants: You should find the best fit for your shape. As an Indiana Image Consultant, I can tell you skinny jeans are out now, but I am probably like you: I have a few very slim jeans in my closet and wear them once in a while.
Be careful about always looking for the most inexpensive jeans. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a great pair. But don’t be afraid to invest in some great pairs that you will wear over and over.
If you shop where your daughter or son does (excluding The Gap) you might become frustrated very fast. When you’re younger you can look great in anything. Who wouldn’t love to have the behind of a 16-year-old? But …You’re at a place in your life where great fabrics, cuts, and styles can make you look terrific! Invest in yourself — consider buying some nice pieces and enjoy them. If you are truly a bargain hunter, try Nordstrom Rack, and TJMaxx, or buy brand names at consignment.
Another important consideration when buying your jeans is to know your shape: Do you have a short rise (crotch to waist); long legs, short legs, flat or curvy behind, large thighs, chunky ankles, petite, tall, etc? All of these issues come into play with your jeans. If you don’t know your shape, reach out to me for a styling appointment. As an Indiana Image Consultant, I understand because I have a couple of these issues as well: curvy behind, short legs, and long torso. I have worn jeans my whole life and have learned a thing or to about how to find the perfect pair.
